Koror
Koror is the largest state of the country of Palau. It consists of several islands, the most prominent being Koror Island (also Oreor Island). The state of Koror contains most of the population of the country. The nation's capital and largest town, also called Koror is located here. The island of Koror is connected by bridges to two neighboring islands:
- Ngerekebesang Island, the site of Palau's second-largest town, Meyungs, with a population of 1,200.
- Malakal Island, the site of Kokor's port.
Koror Island is also connected by a bridge to the island of Babeldaob in the state of Airai, where Koror's airport is located.
Economy: The economy consists primarily of tourism, subsistence agriculture and fishing. The government is the major employer of the work force, relying heavily on financial assistance from the US. The population enjoys a per capita income twice that of the Philippines and much of Micronesia. Long-run prospects for the key tourist sector have been greatly bolstered by the expansion of air travel in the Pacific, the rising prosperity of leading East Asian countries, and the willingness of foreigners to finance infrastructure development.
