General Manager - National Operations

Located in either Brisbane Airport (QLD) or Melbourne Airport (VIC)

AIRWAY, a proud member of the SEAWAY Group of Companies, is seeking a General Manager - National Operations to lead the operational functions of our eight freight handling facilities across Australia.
  
AIRWAY is a leading and comprehensive Air Cargo Services Provider, specialising in the end-to-end management of diverse and time-sensitive Air Freight transportation in the domestic and international markets, which is a dynamic environment requiring a proactive mindset.

The Role
  
Reporting to the Executive General Manager – Air Freight, the General Manager National Operations is a key member of the AIRWAY executive team, responsible for performance excellence at each of our operational facilities.
  
This is a high-impact, national leadership role that demands operational expertise, strong commercial acumen, and a safety and compliance focused mindset.
  
Our ideal candidate will have proven senior level experience in multi-site refrigerated distribution centres or warehouse operations - catering for a range of clients and products with significant seasonal variations.
  
This role can either be based in Melbourne or Brisbane.

Key Areas of Responsibility
  
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations across eight national air freight handling facilities
  • Ensure national compliance with all relevant regulatory, safety, and industry standards
  • Drive continuous improvement in operational efficiency, service delivery, and cost management
  • Lead and support facility managers to achieve performance, safety, and compliance targets
  • Monitor and manage operational budgets, profitability targets, and resource allocation
  • Develop, implement and drive processes, and performance metrics across the business to support continuous improvement
  • Collaborate with executive leadership on strategic planning and long-term operational goals
  • Collaborate with HR to proactively identify and develop emerging talent and future leaders
  
Key Skills & Qualifications
  
  • Significant leadership experience across multi-site refrigerated warehouse operations (direct airfreight experience strongly preferred - but high volume refrigerated FMCG experience could also be relevant)
  • Strong understanding of regulatory compliance requirements including WHS, RACA, 77G, AQIS, and customs/quarantine regulations
  • Strong people leadership and management skills
  • Strong workforce management skills including labour planning, rostering and labour hire management in line with seasonal volume demands
  • Strong commercial acumen and a proven ability to manage budgets, costs, and profitability
  • Ability to develop, implement and measure systems to improve operational capability and efficiency
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to engage and build relationships at all levels
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in logistics, business, or operations management (desirable)
  • Must hold (or be eligible to obtain) a current ASIC
